Why Choose an Extruder?

Extrusion is a process in which raw plastic is fed into the machine, melted, and then passed through a mold to produce products such as PVC profiles, plastic sheets, granules, and more.

The origins of extruders date back to the early 19th century. Various models of this machine were invented for different applications, but none were widely adopted in the plastics industry for various reasons.

However, in the early 20th century, shortly after the invention and commercialization of various plastics, the first successful plastic extrusion operations were carried out.

Extruders have a wide range of applications and are now used in industries such as food, metal, plastics, and more. In the plastics industry, extruders are used to produce plastic pipes, PVC profiles, electronic housings, and more.

Features of the Extruder

In industries such as rotational molding, a producer may want to produce colored or multi-layer tanks, which can be achieved using extruders. Materials such as polyester, PET, and various grades of polyethylene (LDPE, MDPE, HDPE) can be used as raw materials in extruders.

Extruders are suitable for producing profiles of any length, and because the output is hot, the producer can make desired changes. Material waste in the extrusion process is minimal, and production scraps can be collected and reused.

In rotational molding, extruders are used to add color to raw materials for producing colored products, add additives to improve material properties, and produce multi-layer products.

Plastics and Metal Industries

How the Extruder Works

The extruder works by feeding raw plastic granules into a hopper, which then moves through a transfer tube. The granules are pushed forward by a rotating screw, melted by heaters, and finally passed through a mold to produce the finished product.
